Friday June 3rd – Stono River anchorage to Charleston, SC
Departed anchorage at 0915, about 10 miles south of
Charleston Harbor. We were timing our
departures as to get the ebb flow through Elliot Cut. This cut is a very narrow
waterway which has very high speed currents, depending upon the tide situation;
the currents can run from 3 to 5 knots.
We wanted to have the ebb current going with us so as to not fight the
incoming current. Because of this strong
current we picked up speed and recorded one of the fastest speeds for Greeks
Folly at 13 mph. (We almost got out the
water skis.) We entered Charleston
Harbor and saw the city marina which had many mega yachts. The
harbor is a busy commercial port with ocean going ships crisscrossing the
area. We maneuvered thru and arrived at
Charleston Marina Resort at 1116. After
getting a pumpout, we arrived at our slip safely. The next job on the docket was to clean the
boat in preparation for Pam’s sister and husband’s ( Peggy and Claude)
arrival. Also the boat just needed a
good cleaning. Tom scrubbed that outside until it shined and I cleaned and
freshened the inside knowing that they would want a tour of our “house”. We did find time in the evening for a swim in
the pool, and “docktails” aboard Short Vacation.
