June 8, 9, 2016 Minim Creek to Barefoot Landing Resort Marina

Wednesday June 8- Minim Anchorage to Barefoot Resort Marina

Up and moving by 0745.  Greeted by three alligators watching our departure.  In 15 minutes on the ICW, we have been passed by three boats; that is more than we saw all day yesterday.  Very quickly we came upon Tom Yawkey wildlife bridge.  It is a swing bridge but it is also a ferry and when closed, it blocks the whole ICW.    As we continue, we again enjoy seeing groups of dolphins, some feeding and some riding our bow wake. Cruising the Waccamaw river is beautiful; calm water, very scenic and a little current force so we're doing about 8.9 miles an hour. Great traveling.  Upon arriving at Barefoot Landing we immediately enjoyed the huge pool and took a refreshing dip. We then went and visited with Lou and Annie- a cruising couple that Tom met in Dunedin with Tom Mirus last July. We greatly enjoyed our visit and hope to see them up in the Chesapeake Bay.

Tuesday, June 9-Barefoot Landing Marina Resort.

This morning we bike to the beach in North Myrtle Beach. It's a rather small beach but it was heavily populated. Lots of colorful umbrellas dot the beach. We cruised along the beachfront and work that way farther inland to the Barefoot Landing shopping area.  We shopped and had some ice cream and then John and Tom left the young ladies to further their shopping expedition and the guys return to the boats. At 4 o'clock we all met up together for happy hour at Flying Fish bar and grill.   Five dollar food appetizers and two and three dollar draft beers were great. We had many selections tried many different menus selections.  Upon returning to the boat we had a quick dip in the pool and had a planning session to decide where we are going to go the next few days.

This is a swing bridge that pivots across the river so cars and
pedestrians can cross

On the nautical charts they call this a ferry but it never
leaves the one side of the river it pivots on. Cool and
different.

Dolphins playing in our wake

The locals enjoy the river also. This is a tour catamaran
on the right giving a tour.

This is the Waccamaw River. Scenic, wide and deep. A
perfect cruising area. Wished we had spent more time and
anchored out here.

The building of a new highway bridge in the middle of nowhere.
We think it is to service Myrtle Beach.

There were many rental jet skis on the water. They were like
biker gangs. This is the class they give you before your guide
takes you out.

You might be a Redneck if you buy a lot on the water between
really nice houses and park your motor home there.

A Barefoot Landing they had a pirate ship doing a pirate
wannebe tour.

and a fake paddle wheeler tour boat.
