Mon. June 5 - Great Kills NY

Mon, June 5, Great Kills NY
A rainy and cold day.  Took the tender into the marina to talk with the gang and plan out visit into New York City.  The dock-age in NYC ranges anywhere from $4 a foot to $8 a foot so it makes sense for us to stay in Staten Island with the boats and take the ferry and train into the city to see the sights. At Great Kills Yacht Club we also met some great harbor hosts and loopers who were willing to share, not only their knowledge but also their pickup truck with us.  We used the truck in the afternoon to go to Lee's Tavern, a local place. for NY pizza. thin and crispy.  We also trucked over to Fort Wadsworth to look around and enjoy the view of the  Verrazano Bridge.  The evening continued for a few cocktails on the bridge of Seaquest.

A little foggy out in the Narrows where you enter New York Harbor
The Verrazano Bridge in the back ground

Fort Weed that was constructed with 116 cannon placements to
protect the entrance to the harbor. Unfortunately by the time
it was complete new artillery made the fort obsolete
