Tues and Weds, June 6-7 Great Kills - New York City

Tues and Weds, June 6-7  Great Kills - New York City
Today it rained all day so we donned are rain gear and headed into the city.  Wed was sunny but still unseasonable cool.  Once again we purchased a Big Red Bus ticket so we could get a tour of the city as well as know that we are looking at.  NYC is huge!!!  Traffic in the city is as mess and there are people everywhere.  Being from Chicago, the traffic and the people were neither a challenge nor an obstacle, but the skyscrapers and buildings just seemed to go on in all directions.  We saw many landmarks:
our first day on the ferry entering New York. Drizzly and foggy

Two good lookin women, Colletta and the Statue of Liberty

A closer look at Lady Liberty

The ferry terminal at Battery Park

It was wet and cold on the hop on / hop off bus

Bundled up in our boat rain gear and still cold. We found a New York
thrift store and tried to buy some second hand sweat shirts but this
being New York event the thrift stores were expensive.. $25 for a
sweat shirt, no thanks.

lunch break to get out of the cold. Beer and burger $10 such a deal

Staten Island Ferry, the Brooklyn Bridge, the UN building, the Empire State Building, St. Patrick's Cathedral, 9-11 memorial, Central Park, Grants Tomb, Time Square, One World Observatory, just to name a few famous places. We enjoyed 2 days of touring - jumped on and off the bus as needed.  New York City is a city full of energy.  The billboards, lights and ads put a person on sensory overload - don't know where to look or what to do first.  The open green space of Central park is a sharp contrast to the buildings, taxis and horns.  Dogs being walked, nanny's with children sitting in the park, volleyball and soccer games being played, are all being done right next to some of the tallest buildings in the world.  We rode the ferry home, during rush hour with hundreds of other commuters.  The ferries are huge.  It is a beautiful sight to see Lady Liberty there to greet you as you arrive on a boat.  Makes me tingle.

Some of the names from that tragic 9/11. The memorial remembers
each victims birthday by placing a yellow rose by the name. It is just had to imagine
all of these people being killed here. Very moving to be here.
