Port Rawson Bay to Big Sound Marina

Aug 9 and 10 Thurs and Fri - Port Rawson Bay to Big Sound Marina
Late last night, Colletta went out on the bow of the boat to stare at the stars.  There were zillions of them, mostly bright and twinkling.  The Milky Way could be plainly seen along with 2 satellites crossing the sky and 2 large shooting stars.  Gorgeous!!!   A beautiful morning to start moving again.  Anchor came up easy but a little muddy.  Tom rigged the lake water sump pump up last night and it worked as designed this morning.  It was windy with some waves in the open, exposed bays.  As we proceeded up the route, we went through many confined area. Some of the narrows necessitated a "security call" for safe passage as twice we met oncoming work barges.  After passing safely, we slowed our speed to arrive at the appropriate time at our other obstacle which was the Rose Point swing bridge as it only opens on the hour.  We get thru the bridge and dock at Big Sound Marina in Parry Sound to discover the sea planes water runway is just off our stern.  We have built-in entertainment. As the weekend approaches, the number of sea plane take-offs increase as more cottagers and vacationers arrive.  The planes bounce on the water until they get enough speed to gracefully lift -off.
Parry Sound fills out immediate needs - Pam and I did some shopping, Tom tasted more fries from a Mr. Chips truck, we rode our bikes to get groceries - uphill one way and a Dairy Queen stop on the way back.  Tom and Colletta also attend a piano concert at the local music festival.  Four different pianists played a total of 8 pieces, mostly familiar tunes.  Very enjoyable to do something a little different.  The sunsets up here are just beautiful - it must be the clear water and the clear, fresh air that paints the vivid colors from God's hand.

On the way to Parry Sound, some open water...

Seven Mile Narrows, did a securite' call and this
100 foot work barge answered our call. We held back
until he said we could safely pass him in the narrows

Everyone should have a float plane at their cottage

This was the used book store in Parry Sound. It was
probably the biggest used book store I have ever seen.
There were rooms and rooms of organized by author
books. Incredible!

This was the concert hall which was adjacent to the
Bobby Orr Museum. Bobby Orr the famous hockey
player was from Parry Sound and his family still
lives here.
