July 28-30 Sat, Sun, Mon - Portage Lock Wall to Orillia
We caught the first lock down and headed out onto Lake Simcoe. The wind inland was calm and it was overcast. On the lake, the wind had increased, it was spitting rain in a 1-2 ft. chop This was an opportunity for us to travel at cruising speed. Short Vacation was having some problem, John thought something was around his prop. He later went swimming to check his props and found a type of landscaping cloth wrapped around his boat prop and shaft. He unwound it and the boat then worked fine. We traveled thru the lake, thru the Narrows, into Lake Couchaching and finally into the Port of Orilla. The town was having a sidewalk fest so we once again took advantage of their hospitality. We are enjoying all the fests and the music that seems to greet us often.
After church on Sunday, we enjoyed the company of our Toronto/ Florida neighbors, John and Lynnie. having brunch with them and catching up was a welcome change of pace. Tom and Colletta then rode the bikes on the trail to find the bronze statue to Gordon Lightfoot, who is a native of Orillia. Sunday evening once again brought music to the park - this time with a local concert band, good music from good musicians. The burgers and fries from French's were also good!
Monday was laundry day, last minute shopping and grocery run, Colletta got to play the piano located in the park and Tom made his usual trip to the hardware store. We will be moving tomorrow.
Out on Lake Simcoe it started raining so we had to
deploy our windshield wipers... aka a squee gee
It gets really dark up here.... even in the marina
Gordon Lightfoot tribute in the park
There were 28 stars on this leaf for the men
lost on the boat when it sunk
A local community band from a neighboring town
serenaded us and did a great job.
